Velvetpark Magazine Submission Guidelines



Velvetpark Magazine is an exciting, eye-opening and intelligent new national dyke culture magazine based in Brooklyn, New York. We are looking for diverse and talented editorial writers, photographers, visual artists, fiction/poetry writers, designers, article editors, copy editors, marketers and advertisers from varied locations and backgrounds to contribute to our cutting-edge coverage of dyke culture.

Editorial Writers:

Velvetpark publishes profiles on celebrity and everyday dyke-cons, political columns, art, film, music and book reviews, issue articles, first-person commentary, columns, documentary stories and event coverage.

Please send us a brief, 1-2 paragraph query of your article idea(s) along with a resume and two writing samples (published or unpublished).

*We suggest sending a query rather than a finished article

Submit to submissions@velvetparkagazine.com. In the subject line, write RE: EDITORIAL.



Fiction/Poetry Writers:

Velvetpark publishes short fiction, fiction excerpts from longer works and poetry. Pieces should not exceed 1000 words.

To submit fiction or poetry, email a maximum of 3 pieces edited to 1000 words or less and a brief personal statement describing yourself and your work to submissions@velvetparkmagazine.com. In the subject line, write RE: FICTION/POETRY.



Photographers:

Velvetpark publishes work by portrait, documentary, journalistic, fashion and fine art photographers.

Photographers may submit work samples to be considered for assignments OR complete photo projects/portfolios to be considered for publication.

To submit work as website link, send URL and a brief personal statement describing yourself and your work to submissions@velvetparkmagazine.com. In the subject line, write RE: PHOTOGRAPHY. Email attachments OK please be conscious of size.

Designers:

Velvetpark is looking for designers and design interns to do design and production work and to assist around the office. This is a great opportunity to work for a cutting edge magazine with limitless creative possibilities.

Designers and design interns need to have strong typographical skills, be able to work in a team environment, be proficient in both print and web design, know the basics of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark applications and be comfortable working in both Mac and Windows Platforms. Any working knowledge of HTML or Dreamweaver is a plus.

Copy Editors:

Velvetpark is looking for skilled and detail-oriented copy editors to assist contributing writers in their reporting/writing process, to edit individual articles, and to proofread the magazine at press time.

Copy editors should send a resume submissions@velvetparkmagazine.com. In the subject line, write RE: COPY EDITOR. Work samples and references will be required only upon request.


Advertising Representatives:

Velvet Park is looking for advertising representatives to sell advertisement space in the magazine. Experience is a plus.
